THE FINAL WEEK! CHAMPS (Fri & Sat) & WELCH Awards Banquet & Swim Night (Sat 8/3)

Yes, the Welch Sharks CPSL 2013 summer season is in its final week and there are still a few important items between now and next Saturday (8/3) evening's Welch Swim Team Awards Banquet/Picnic.

Friday (8/2) - CHAMPS Ages 11 & over - at the Rec Park Pool in Lewistown
Welch Parent volunteer positions are still needed to be filled.
Currently we need: 
1st Half: Hen, Timers (2), Seeding Area, Stroke & Turn Judge
2nd Half:  Rooster, Timers (4), Seeding Area, Scorer/Awards, Stroke & Turn Judge

Directions to Lewistown's Rec Park Pool:

Follow 322 East from State College\Potters Mills towards Lewistown At Lewistown, take the East Charles Street exit Turn right at first light onto S. Dorcas St. Turn right on to Montgomery St. At the stop sign (3-way stop) continue straight on Montgomery St. Turn right on Cherry St. (Rec Park entrance).

Directions to Penn's Valley Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Pool in Millheim:

Follow 45 East from State College/Boalsburg. From Centre Hall (intersection of Routes 45 and 144) travel east on Route 45.  As you enter Millheim, go straight at the traffic light, take a slight left (after the bridge) onto Park Road.  Park Road then turns to the left, follow Park Road until it takes a left into the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park.

Saturday (8/3) - Welch Swim Team End of Season Awards Picnic/Banquet and Night Swim
Welch Swim Team's Annual End of Season Awards Banquet will be held Saturday evening.
Swimmer awards, food, season video, and swimming

Each family is asked to bring a food item to share as follows:
Last names A to M: Help with set-up at 5:30 and bring a side dish or salad
Last names N to Z:  Help with clean-up and bring a desert.

Please use this 2013 Welch Swim Team Banquet RSVP so that we can obtain an appropriate headcount.

Thank you Welch Parent Volunteers

Thank you to all the Welch Parents who volunteered for last Thursday's Welch Sharks Pancake Breakfast.  We had a flurry of volunteers come together to provide griddles, spatulas, and help prepare and serve our hungry sharks.  Weatherwise, it was a perfect morning for hot pancakes and the swimmers appeared to enjoy this team treat.

Also, thank you to all the Welch Parents who volunteered to assist with the running the away meet Thursday evening at SPRA.  Your turnout made the meet run fast and efficient.  We hope you enjoyed the meet volunteer experience.  We greatly appreciate and look forward to your continued service and hope that many more of our Welch Parents will join us on deck.

Mid-week UPDATE

7/24 WEDNESDAY
Volunteer Sign-Ups taken (online and at the Welch pool near the team's white board) for:

• Thursday (7/25) morning's PANCAKE BREAKFAST We still need a few extra electric griddles and more team parent volunteers to help prepare and serve the pancakes (especially in the 9:25 to 10:10 time slot).

• Thursday (7/25) evening SWIM MEET AT SPRA (Science Park Rd.) The Welch Shark Team Parents almost filled their 1st half volunteer positions.  A few 1st half openings remain.  However, we need many more Welch Parent Volunteers for the 2nd half - Timers, Seeders, and Scorers/Averagers.  Sign up to volunteer online at Welch Parent VOLUNTEER SIGN UP form - SPRA meet 7/25
• Morning practices as scheduled.
• CHAMPS swimmer sign ups taken at morning practice - table cart under the display cases located on the west side wall of the lifeguard's office.  Please note that swimmers must sign up in advance during regular morning team practices in order to swim in the meet. CHAMPS is a scratch only event - meaning the only adjustments to the meet program will be scratches (no-shows) there are no late (on deck) additions.
• CHAMPS Parent Volunteer sign-ups for either Friday (Aug 2) or Saturday (Aug 3) can be made online by accessing the Champs (sign ups) tab located at the top of the blog page or this link Welch Parent Volunteers - CHAMPS meet

• Night practice (13-18yr) is CANCELED due to a scheduled Parks & Rec. Theme Night at Welch Pool.

7/25 THURSDAY
Pancake Breakfast for Welch Shark Swimmers after each age group's morning practice session.
Final Welch TEAM season swim meet AT SPRA.  *We still need Welch Parent volunteers to run the meet - see above info/link to sign up*

Monday Night practice CANCELED

Monday night's Welch 13 - 18 yr. old 8pm to 9pm swim practice is canceled due to this evening's poor weather conditions.

**DEADLINE to sign up to swim @ SPRA meet is by end of Tuesday morning's practice**

WELCH TEAM update: PANCAKE BREAKFAST & SPRA MEET for Thursday, 7/25

7/25 (THUR) Pancake Breakfast for Welch swimmers after each age group's morning swim practice
*Bring your own drink.  We will provide the pancakes, butter, syrup, plates, cutlery, & napkins.*
8:00 AM ages 13-18  (volunteer time 7:40 to 8:25)
9:00 AM ages 9-12  (volunteer time 8:40 to 9:25)
9:45 AM ages 5-8  (volunteer time 9:25 to 10:05)

Parent volunteers are needed to assist with this activity.  We need six (6) griddles and spatulas.  If you have a griddle/spatula to loan, let me know directly - I will be at each morning's practice this week.  You can bring your griddle/spatula to the pool ahead of time where we can store them in the team's storage room.  Please place your name on masking tape and attach to your griddle and spatula. We added a Sign Up Genius link for those that wish to help and/or loan equipment for Thursday, but are unable to sign up at the pool Mon-Wed morning.

A swim meet requires many volunteers in order to run efficiently and effectively.  Each participating team is required to provide those volunteer positions so that the meet can start on time, run smoothly, and finish on time.  The Welch Swim Team is comprised of at least 200 swimmers, we need more of you to actively participate at CPSL meets.  We hope that you will consider this request and volunteer.  Volunteer position descriptions can be found by clicking the Volunteer Positions tab located at the top of our blog page.

The SPRA pool is located at 758 Science Park Rd, State College, PA 16803
Pool parking is in the SPRA lot with overflow parking directed to the Credit Union lot next door.  NOTE: Do NOT park in The Wonderland Charter School lot - your car will likely be towed.
